God's grace is shown to Dante in the form of Virgil, a fellow poet, who would be his guide through hell, God chose Virgil to be Dante's guide because Virgil was a master poet and could relate to Dante, also because Virgil was a poet he had a way with words and he knew how to comfort and console Dante as they traveled through the horrors of Hell.
