On page 104 Platt says, "Our version of the American Dream ends up disinfecting Christians from the world more than discipling Christians in the world." Explain what you think that means,

Platt says, "Disinfecting Christians from the world involves isolating followers of Christ in a spiritual safe-deposit box called the church building and teaching them to be good." The American Dream creates people who are comfortable and content where they are, going to church once a week and then returning to their "normal" lives. It has people thinking that the church is only the physical building, and that people will be drawn to the church (the goal of the American Dream is to attract people to the church in order to have a big church). People begin to forget that God has commanded that we go out and share the gospel, and instead hole themselves up in a building. Discipling Christians means preparing Christians to do God's will and bring more people to him. Platt mentions the Cuban churches that planted other churches, they live in a world where they realize how important it is ti share God's word, they want more people because they know that more people need God, the American Dream wants more people for status, and that is the main difference between disinfecting Christians and discipling Christians. The latter group is aware of the fact that people need God and that God has chosen us, his people to spread his word.
